Using the Right Amoxicillin Dosage for Better Treatment

Amoxicillin is without doubt the most popular antibiotic medication that is currently available in the market.  This possibly due to its easy availability and that it can even be purchased without a prescription.  For this reason, many households carry amoxicillin as part of their first aid medications at home.  In terms of amoxicillin dosage, there are actually many dosages available.  But the most popular amoxicillin dosage is without doubt their 500mg.  It can be said that when treating a particular bacterial infection, it is necessary that you know the proper amoxicillin dosage to properly treat the infection.  However, since the availability of amoxicillin dosage is mostly 500mg, many simply rely on this amoxicillin dosage and just to vary its frequency of use.

Proper amoxicillin dosage means you need to take the right dosage for the infection you are treating.  You will not exactly overdose and die if you take too much antibiotic.  However, the chances of also eliminating the good bacteria within your system are very high and that such will lead to complications within some of your usual routines.  A good example for this is the bacteria that help you to break down food.  Without these helpful bacteria, you will not be able to properly digest food and absorb the nutrients you need.  For this reason, if you are taking the 500mg amoxicillin dosage, it is recommended that the frequency for taking the antibiotic drug will be at most three times daily only, unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

When it comes to using antibiotics, it may be much better to have a higher amoxicillin dosage than use a low amoxicillin dosage for treating infections.  This is because if you use very low quantities of amoxicillin dosage, the chances of allowing the bacteria to adapt and become resilient to amoxicillin antibiotics are very high.  If this happens, you will be required to use more potent but also more expensive types of antibiotics just to counter them bacteria that you could have purged with just amoxicillin before.

Although amoxicillin is not a prescription medication, it is not unusual if your doctor prescribes you with amoxicillin with a particular amoxicillin dosage for a particular bacterial infection that you might have.  Also, it is likely that you will be given a course of antibiotics for the said infection.  If you have been given a course of antibiotics with a particular amoxicillin dosage, it is important that you make sure that you complete the course of antibiotics given to you.  Even if you may feel better within half of the course, it is necessary that you still complete your course of antibiotic medications.  This will help you in ensuring that no remnants of the bacteria remain in your system.  If you were to stop midway and some bacteria that infected you still remains, then there is a chance that they may also develop resistance to amoxicillin and this will create big issues for you because you can no longer eliminate them with amoxicillin no matter how much amoxicillin dosage you use to kill them.
